Joao Pedro suspension: Chelsea coach mentions George as possible number nine for UCL clash v Ajax

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Tyrique George could be deployed as a central striker for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League fixture against Ajax Amsterdam, following the suspension of Joao Pedro.

Pedro will miss the encounter with the Dutch side after receiving a red card during Chelsea's matchday two tie against Benfica.

Addressing the media ahead of the game, Maresca discussed his attacking options for the crucial clash.

"We have different options, we have one more session this afternoon and then we will decide [who starts]," Maresca told Chelsea's official website

"We have Marc, we have also Tyrique [George], who has played games as a nine in the past; he did very well previously playing in that role, such as against Benfica."

George, who has experience playing as a central striker for Chelsea, offers versatility in attack and could fill the void left by Pedro’s absence.

His potential inclusion provides Maresca with additional tactical flexibility heading into the fixture.

Marc Guiu remains another strong candidate for the No. 9 position, giving Maresca multiple options to choose from before finalising his lineup.

A decision on who will lead the line is expected to be made after Chelsea's final training session on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blues will host Ajax at Stamford Bridge as they look to secure back-to-back wins in the Champions League for the first time this season.
