Nigeria International Returns To Manchester City But As An Opponent
Published: November 06, 2018Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk have included Nigeria national-teamer Olarenwaju Kayode on their provisional squad list for their Champions League meeting with Manchester City at the Etihad Satdium on Wednesday evening.
Kayode was among the two players classed as strikers listed on the 22-man roster announced on Tuesday morning.
Shakhtar departed to Manchester at around 1000 hours local time today ahead of the match day four fixture.
Just five months ago, Kayode ended his association with Manchester City without playing an official match for the Premier League champions, who had signed him from Austria Vienna in August 2017.
The Citizens acquired the striker after he emerged the top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga for the 2016-17 season but he was loaned out to Girona as a result of work permit issues.
He was a non-playing substitute when the Ukrainians were beaten 3-0 by City on game week three in the Champions League.
The prospect of Kayode starting against Pep Guardiola's side tomorrow is slim as he has not been involved in the last three domestic games played by Shakhtar Donetsk due to a suspension.
