The Future Of AFCONQ Leading Marksman To Dominate Back Pages as Changchun Yatai Are Relegated
Published: November 11, 2018
The future of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers leading marksman, Odion Ighalo is set to dominate the back pages in the coming months following Changchun Yatai's relegation from the Chinese Super League on Sunday.
The Nigeria international could do nothing to assist Changchun Yatai beat the drop, with a hamstring injury suffered in the penultimate round ruling him out of today's fixture against Dalian Yifang.
Heading into game week 30, Changchun Yatai failed to win any of their last seven matches with three draws and four losses.
Two goals from Duvier Riascos and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco condemned Changchun Yatai to relegation.
Although John Obi Mikel's Tianjin Teda and Chongqing Lifan also lost today and finished on the same 32 points as Changchun Yatai, Ighalo's team had the worst goal difference.
A return to Europe for Ighalo in the January transfer window is a possibility as he wants to brighten his chances of making the Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations roster.
His contract with Changchun Yatai runs out in December 2020.
