Deadline Is Up: Ex-Super Eagles Invitee REFUSES To Cave In To Sunderland's Contract Demands
Published: January 04, 2019
Nigerian striker Josh Maja is preparing to bid farewell to League One outfit Sunderland this month after refusing to cave in to their demands to sign a new deal by the end of the day or never.
The former Super Eagles invitee has informed The Black Cats he won't sign a new deal and the club have to cash in on their prized asset, rather than see him leave for nothing at the end of this season.
Providing an update on the contract situation of Maja, Sunderland owner Stewart Donald took to social media to explain the circumstances that led to the attacker rejecting their offer.
He tweeted : ''Yesterday Josh sought Jack out unprompted and said he wants to sign his contract. Today sky call and say he is not.
''I inform Jack who pulls Josh and asks what is going on - Josh says - My agent has told me not to sign for Sunderland. His agent told Sky TV rather than the club!!!!''.
Donald added : ''I would have kept Josh news in-house but once his agent informed Sky &they report it that he doesn't want to sign we have to respond.
''He wants to sign it this agent that has said don't!!! Stay behind him and don't get up his back - we will try & change his mind.''
Maja, who celebrated his 20th birthday on December 27, has scored 14 goals in 22 league matches so far this season.
