FA Cup : Busy Super Eagles Defender Ajayi Scores Own Goal As Man City Hammer Rotherham 7-0
Published: January 06, 2019
Manchester City are through to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup after hammering Rotherham United 7-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into today's fixture, the Millers were lacking form, with only one win in their last ten games in the Championship and that came on New Year's day against Preston North End.
Six different Manchester City players wrote their names on the scoresheet : Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Nicolas Otamendi, Leroy Sane.
Rotherham United were 3-0 down at the interval which ended the suggestion of a comeback as Nigeria international Semi Ajayi scored an unfortunate own goal, turning into his own net in the first minute of stoppage time as he wanted to clear a cross from Kyle Walker.
The scoreline could have looked much worse for the visitors but Ajayi prevented Sterling from opening the scoring in the third minute and did well to keep Gabriel Jesus at bay twice in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half.
The Super Eagle played his 29th game of the season in all competitions against the Premier League champions.
