Rotherham's Goal-Of-The-Season Contender Scored By Eagles Star Nominated For EFL GOTW
Published: January 29, 2019
Semi Ajayi's screamer in the 2-1 loss against EFL Championship heavyweights, Leeds is in line to be named the best goal scored in the English Football League last weekend.
With barely 28 minutes played at the AESSEALNew York Stadium on Saturday, the ex-Arsenal youth teamer picked up a pass from teammate, Richard Towell and showed great technique to rattle home a venomous strike past Kiko Casilla from nearly 25 yards out.
Leeds eventually recovered to run out 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Mateusz Klich but even that did little to take away the lustre from the opening goal of the game.
For the versatile Super Eagles defender, the goal was his first for United since finding the net against Wigan Athletic in a League Cup match in August 2018.
Sporting Life have picked three other goals alongside that of the Nigerian, Ipswich Town's Freddie Sears, Nottingham Forest's Joe Lolley and Cheltenham Town's Luke Varney, and readers have, as at the time of this report, cast 52 percent of their votes for Ajayi's strike as the best scored across all games in the second tier last weekend.
Lolley who came closest to matching the Nigerian has accumulated 28 percent of votes while Sears and Varney come up with 12 percent and 8 percent respectively.
The winner of the most eye-catching strike will be announced on Wednesday.
