Arsenal, PSG Scouts In Attendance As Bordeaux Striker Maja Substituted At Half-Time
Published: February 21, 2019
Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja played his second game for Bordeaux as they were held to a goalless draw by Guingamp on game week 23 in the French Ligue 1 on Wednesday evening.
According to Clubcall, scouts representing Premier League side Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain were present at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique and it is rumored that the talent spotters were watching Guingamp number eleven Marcus Thuram.
Maja is still adapting to life at Bordeaux, whom he joined in the January transfer window, and was replaced at half time against Guingamp.
Premier League, German Bundesliga and Scottish teams were credited with an interest in the 20-year-old prior to his switch to Bordeaux.
Explaining why Maja was replaced, manager Eric Bedouet said at the post-match press conference : ''Josh Maja is a player we are starting to know, we do not know him completely.
''We do not know yet how he can get on with the matches and things like that, I think he's a physically strong player, he can do it, but these are things that can be learned.
''You have to be careful with the player, it's not easy to fit in like this in a different league, in a different team, we decided to change and put another option with Cornelius, who we know better and who allowed us to play a little longer and also to change system''.
Maja, who was invited to the Super Eagles squad for a get-together in London in 2017, lasted 67 minutes on his debut against Toulouse four days ago.
