Elderson Echiejile Training With Finnish Champions HJK Ahead Of Potential Transfer
Published: March 01, 2019
Nigeria international Elderson Echiejile is training with Finnish Veikkausliiga champions HJK Helsinki ahead of a potential move.
Finnish newspaper Ilta Sanomat is reporting that the left-back accompanied HJK to Antalya, Turkey, where they will hold a training camp from 27 February to 9 March 2019.
Echiejile has agreed personal terms with HJK but head coach Mika Lehkosuo wants to observe him at close quarters before rubber-stamping the contract.
The 31-year-old has been unemployed since he mutually agreed to part company with Monaco just before the close of the summer transfer window.
He was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2010 and 2018 World Cups and was omitted from the 2014 roster only after picking up an injury in a friendly vs Greece.
If everything goes according to plan, Echiejile would link up with Faith Friday Obilor at Finland's most successful club.
Apart from Monaco, he has also spent time in the colours of Bendel Insurance, Sporting Braga, Rennes, Standard Liege, Sporting Gijon, Sivasspor and Cercle Brugge.
