Major League Soccer club DC United confirmed on Friday that they have acquired experienced Nigerian striker Quincy Amarikwa as a free agent.

Although the player was born in Bakersfield, California, he has committed his international future to Nigeria.

Amarikwa first got his start at Bakersfield Brigade in 2008, followed by a transfer to San Jose Earthquakes, where he spent one year before shifting to Colorado Rapids.

He signed for Toronto in 2012, then moved to Chicago Fire the following year, before returning to San Jose Earthquakes for a second spell in 2015.

Following a three-year stint with Quakes, the attacker was traded to Montreal Impact in August 2018.

Aged 31, Amarikwa has 200 career appearances to his name in the MLS regular season, scoring 25 goals and logging 9,765 minutes.

He could make his competitive debut for DC United against Atlanta United on Sunday, March 3.
