Etebo Provides Update On Groin Injury Suffered Against Nottingham Forest
Published: March 03, 2019
Oghenekaro Etebo has played down fears that the groin injury he suffered against Nottingham Forest in a Championship clash on Saturday is serious.
The Nigeria international produced a trademark bullet shot from the edge of the box to open the scoring at the Bet365 Stadium in the 15th minute but had to be replaced 20 minutes into the second half.
Stoke City confirmed during the match that an injury to their goalscorer meant they were forced to make an enforced change.
Providing an update on the injury, Etebo told stokesentinel.co.uk: ''It was my groin but I think I’m going to be fine.
''If I’d continued I think I would have strained it more so I just had to stop but because I did that I think I’m going to be fine.''
''If I’d continued I think I would have strained it more so I just had to stop but because I did that I think I’m going to be fine.''
The former Warri Wolves star, who became the first Nigerian player to score four goals in a single game at the Olympics in 2016, spent 32 hours and 39 minutes on the pitch before netting his first goal in Stoke City's colours.
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr is sweating on the fitness of Brighton's Leon Balogun (shoulder injury), Torino's Ola Aina and Porto loanee Mikel Agu (both muscle injury) ahead of the announcement of a squad list for the international games this month.
Turkish-based midfielders Ogenyi Onazi and Joel Obi, and Benfica right back Tyronne Ebuehi are long-term injury absentees.
