Stoke City Coach On Etebo: 'It’s Clear That He’s Not A Training Ground International'
Published: March 04, 2019
Stoke City boss Nathan Jones reserved special praise for his number eight, Oghenekaro Etebo in the wake of his side's 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the last round of matches in the Championship.
The former Warri Wolves star broke into the Nigeria setup in March 2016 on the back of his fine performances for the Dream Team VI and since then he has always been called up to the Super Eagles, barring an injury.
With ten appearances in the Super Eagles last 11 games, manager Jones pointed out that Etebo is not in the national team just to make up the numbers.
''His work-rate, his character, his technical ability and what he does is high level,'' Jones told the official website of the Potters.
''When you first see him you don’t necessarily see what he’s got but then you see him in games and he’s a real game player.
''It’s clear that he’s not a training ground international, he’s a proper, proper player.''
Etebo netted his first goal in Stoke City colours against Nottingham Forest, ending a run of 27 games in all competitions without getting on the scoresheet.
