The Nigeria Football Federation on Sunday announced the shortlist for the Men and Women's Player of the Year Awards ahead of tomorrow's ceremony at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers top marksman Odion Ighalo is in contention for the Player of the Year prize and faces competition from Al-Nassr winger Ahmed Musa and Arsenal star Alex Iwobi.

Musa shone for the Super Eagles at the 2018 World Cup, scoring two goals in a 2-0 win vs Iceland, while Iwobi was a key member of the Gunners side that reached the semifinal of the Europa League and final of the League Cup last season.

Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi were controversially left out of the three-man shortlist

Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala has made the Women's list along with Francisca Ordega and Onome Ebi. The three players were part of the Super Falcons squad at the 2018 AWCON in Ghana.

In the Goal of the Season category, Musa's second strike against Iceland, Ighalo's third goal vs Libya and Kelvin Itoya's rocket vs Kano Pillars in the AITEO Cup final have been shortlisted.

Villarreal's Samuel Chukwueze, Sporting Charleroi's Victor Osimhen and Galatasaray's Henry Onyekuru are in the running for the Young Player of the Year Male, while Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Anam Imo are on the Women's list.
