Former Man City Striker Iheanacho Needs Pellegrini As Much As Pellegrini Needs Him
Published: April 12, 2019
Kelechi Iheanacho was one of the youngsters who broke into the limelight during the 2015-16 season when he scored 14 goals despite spending little time on the field of play.
Iheanacho's fast-paced development at the Etihad Stadium could be traced to the trust Manuel Pellegrini had in him.
Pellegrini's trust in his ability was so huge that the manager benched former Swansea and Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony for the largely inexperienced youngster.
Unfortunately, Pep Guardiola didn't share the same opinion with the Chilean manager. The former Barcelona boss sanctioned Iheanacho's move to Leicester City in 2017 to create space for Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus.
Two years after his move to the King Power Stadium, the Super Eagles forward is yet to reach the height he attained while he was at Manchester City.
It won't be out of place to say that the 22-year-old needs Manuel Pellegrini to relaunch his career once again.
In the same vein, Pellegrini also needs Iheanacho's goalscoring ability to help his side, West Ham United, achieve much success next season.
Marko Arnautovic, who joined the Hammers from Stoke City in 2017, has scored just seven Premier League goals this season, which isn't impressive enough for a player of his caliber and market value.
Pellegrini knows how to bring the best out of the player he signed from Taye Academy, and he will surely give Iheanacho much game-time which will help him return to his deadly form.
Should the player return to his rich vein of form with West Ham, it is certain that the Hammers will score more goals and will end next season in a more laudable position.
