Nigeria U17 Camp News : Ubani Rejected Stone Turned Cornerstone; Bournemouth GK Oluwabusola; Divine Nwachukwu
Published: April 28, 2019
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Bournemouth's Joseph Oluwabusola is in danger of missing out on the Golden Eaglets roster for the 2019 World Cup in Brazil as the coaches have not been impressed with the goalkeeper since he first joined the team last year.
It is believed that the Cherries glovesman was recommended to the Nigeria U17s coaching staff by one of the vice presidents of the Nigerian Federation based in Lagos, and warmed his way into the hearts of his teammates and coaching staff by pampering them with gifts when he reported for international duty ahead of the tournament in Tanzania.
The Golden Eaglets coaches have opined that Oluwabusola does not have the qualities needed to be a national team goalkeeper and he only made the squad because first-choice goalkeeper John Amah failed the MRI test before the AFCON.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria U17s standout player in Tanzania, Wisdom Ubani can be likened to the proverbial rejected stone that turned into a corner stone.
It can be revealed for the first time that the Giant Brillers FC striker was dropped from the squad that represented the country in the zonal qualifiers in Niger because of his wastefulness in front of goal during the training camp.
He was recalled to the team this year and was supposed to play second fiddle to Olakunle Olusegun in Tanzania but ended up stealing the limelight.
Not as wasteful as Ubani, Rivertime FC's Divine Nwachukwu was the most potent striker in the training sessions ahead of the U17 AFCON and had been earmarked for an important role during the tournament.
However, the 15-year-old did not impress on his debut for the Golden Eaglets after coming off the bench vs Tanzania and blew away his chance of breaking into the starting lineup.
