Chelsea Midfielder Beats Arsenal's Balogun To Premier League 2 Award
Published: September 13, 2019Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has beaten Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun to the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August 2019.
The Nigerian wonderkid was nominated for the accolade alongside Gilmour, Harry Chapman (Blackburn), James Garner (Man Utd), Dan Kemp (West Ham United), Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal) and Brandon Williams (Man Utd).
While Gilmour managed one goal in three appearances in the Premier League 2 last month, Balogun is the joint top scorer in the league with four goals to his name.
The 18-year-old started the season with a hat-trick against Blackburn Rovers and scored once more against Derby County in the last game before the international break.
He provided assists in the Gunners 2-1 win against Brighton and 2-2 draw with The Rams.
Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of Balogun ahead of Saturday afternoon's clash against Leicester City U23 after he withdrew from the England U19 squad due to injury.
