'He's very old' - Osimhen impressed by Ajax's 41yo GK, opens up on playing with a mask
Published: November 06, 2025
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has praised Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer, despite putting three goals past the veteran during their UEFA Champions League league phase clash on Wednesday night.
The Super Eagles forward needed less than 20 minutes to register a sensational hat-trick, striking first with a trademark header before converting two penalties in quick succession.
His clinical display helped Galatasaray secure an emphatic win and reaffirmed his status as one of Europe's most lethal forwards.
Ajax began the season with Liverpool loanee Vítězslav Jaroš between the posts, but Pasveer, who turns 42 later this month, has since reclaimed the starting spot.
Although the Dutchman is yet to keep a clean sheet in his four appearances this season, his remarkable longevity has earned admiration from many across the footballing world, including Osimhen himself.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport, as quoted by Ajax Showtime, Osimhen expressed genuine respect for the experienced shot-stopper.
"He's very old, I knew that. He still has it in him. He's a good goalkeeper and has the qualities," Osimhen said.
Osimhen also discussed his trademark protective face mask, which he has worn since suffering a serious facial injury during a Serie A clash between Napoli and Inter Milan in November 2021.
Contrary to what many might think, Osimhen insists the mask causes no discomfort.
"I can see clearly. It's like I'm not wearing anything. When I put it on, my face pops out. When I look to the sides, it's like I'm not wearing anything. I can see everything."
Following his treble against Ajax, Osimhen has now moved to six goals in the Champions League, making him the competition's leading scorer after four matchdays, ahead of Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), and Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid).
