2017 Super Eagles invitee beats Nwaneri to Arsenal's October Goal of the Month
Published: November 06, 2025
Super Eagles target Ethan Nwaneri has missed out on Arsenal's October Goal of the Month award.
According to Arsenal's official website, 2017 Super Eagles invitee Eberechi Eze claimed the accolade for his stunning scissor kick against his former side Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
Eze, 27, was a player of interest to Nigeria before he made a cap-tying appearance for the Three Lions, with former Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick failing to convince him to pledge his allegiance to the three-time African champions.
Since making his debut for the Three Lions against Malta, the attacking midfielder has registered two goals in 14 appearances for his country of birth.
There was no podium finish for Nwaneri, whose Carabao Cup strike against Brighton & Hove Albion was among the nominees.
Chloe Kelly's equaliser against Manchester City finished second, while Gabriel Martinelli's composed first-time finish versus Atletico Madrid completed the top three.
Other nominees for the monthly honour included Alessia Russo (nominated twice), Brando Bailey-Joseph, Marcel Washington and Harrison Dudziak.
Nwaneri earned his nomination for a composed finish that opened the scoring against Brighton, firing a low drive into the bottom corner before Bukayo Saka sealed the 2-0 victory late on.
The Hale End Academy graduate, who remains the youngest player in Premier League history, has scored one goal in nine appearances for Arsenal so far this season.
