Lampard Latest Fitness Update Is Good News For Chelsea But Bad For One Nigerian Star
Published: September 13, 2019
Nigerian young star Fikayo Tomori may find himself frozen out of the Chelsea squad in their next Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with manager Frank Lampard confirming that first choice central defender Antonio Rüdiger is set to return to the team after fully recovering from an injury.
Tomori has been included in each of the matchday squads announced by Lampard since the start of the season, and was in action against Liverpool (UEFA Super Cup) and Sheffield United (Premier League).
The 21-year-old is in direct competition with Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma for a place in the 18-man squad.
''Rudiger is fit to play. He’s been very important for the club and the team since he’s been here with his personality, character and quality and we’ve missed him,'' Lampard told reporters at the pre-match press conference.
''Everyone talks about how young we are and how young we’re becoming so we need leaders within that and Rudiger needs to take on the responsibility of being a leader for us.''
A loan move was on the cards in the summer transfer window but Tomori had to remain at Chelsea following the sale of David Luiz to Arsenal.
