Young Nigerian Goalkeeper Gets The All-clear To Make Season Debut For Arsenal
Published: October 01, 2019
Promising Nigerian goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri has been given the green light by Arsenal's medical team to make his debut in the 2019-2020 season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
A small tear in his medial meniscus had prevented the first-year scholar from playing for the Gunners' youth teams in the new season but the good news is that his injury worries are over.
And indeed, Ejeheri was fit enough to be included in the matchday squad when Arsenal U18s thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 in their opening Premier League Cup match on September 28, though he was a non-playing sub.
The 16-year-old is targeting a return to action in October and the possibility of him making his debut is high as he has started training with the rest of his teammates.
Ejeheri is eligible to represent Nigeria, England and Uganda internationally but has pledged his allegiance to the West Africans and could have trained with the Golden Eaglets in August if not for his injury.
Arsenal U18s are back in league action on Saturday when they travel to Reading and it remains to be seen if he's handed his long awaited debut by manager Ken Gillard.
