Lampard's Statement On International Future Of Abraham That Will Worry Nigeria Fans
Published: October 03, 2019England boss Gareth Southgate will announce his roster for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria on Thursday afternoon.
Super Eagles and Three Lions fans are waiting anxiously to find out if in-form Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham will be called up for the competitive fixtures in October as he would become cap-tied to his country of birth if he sees playing time in any of the matches.
Coach Frank Lampard believes Tammy Abraham has given himself a chance of earning a recall to the England squad after two years on the back of his fine form for Chelsea, a statement that will worry many Super Eagles fans who want the Londoner to commit his international future to the three-time African Champions.
Asked how Abraham is handling the pressure ahead of the squad announcement later today, Lampard told reporters after the 2-1 win vs Lille in the Champions League : ''Tammy is handling that situation like he is handling everything in life, with enthusiasm, happiness and a desire to work.
''Of course he wants to be the best and with that comes international recognition. The next decision on that front is for Gareth.
''I'll never want to tell him what to do but when you see the performances of Tammy, Mason, who was in the last squad, and the way Tomori is playing now - it's giving themselves a chance.''
Chelsea's Ross Barkley and Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli were eligible to represent to represent Nigeria before becoming cap-tied to England and everything is pointing to the fact that Abraham will follow in their footsteps.
