Fikayo Tomori Reiterates Desire To Play For England Over Nigeria And Canada
Published: October 09, 2019
Nigerians will not be too pleased with Fikayo Tomori's latest comments after the Chelsea starlet insisted he is focused on becoming a full England international even if he does not get cap-tied this month.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the defender who is behind Harry Maguire and Michael Keane in the pecking order for central defence reiterated his stance on turning out for the Three Lions over Nigeria and Canada
"I think the call-up kind of solidifies that," Tomori told reporters, including Sky Sports.
"Being eligible to play for three countries was, it depends on how you look at it, a good thing and a bad thing.
"Once I got the call-up to England there wasn't a really a doubt in my mind that I was going to commit.
"Being here now, I just want to try and get my first cap and then try and get more after that as well."
Tomori has made appearances at youth level for both Canada and England but the question about which country he chooses at senior level could all but be answered if Gareth Southgate hands him game time versus Czech Republic in their European Championship qualifier on Friday.
He will join Carlton Cole, Gabriel Agbonlahor, John Fashanu, Ross Barkley, Dele Alli amongst others to become Nigerians who elected to play for the European nation over the West African giant.
