'He Has Been Playing Really Well' - Ex-Man Utd Star Questions Awaziem's Omission From Starting XI Vs Getafe
Published: January 18, 2020
Former Manchester United striker Terry Gibson has questioned the decision of Leganes manager Javier Aguirre to omit Chidozie Awaziem from the starting line-up in Friday night's 3-0 loss to Getafe in the Spanish La Liga.
It was a comfortable victory for Oghenekaro Etebo and his teammates in the South Madrid derby and they didn't have much to do in the second half, having put the game to bed in the first half with goals from Leandro Cabrera, Allan Nyom and Jaime Mata.
Coach Aguirre opted to play five defenders, with Rodrigo Tarin, Kenneth Omeruo and Jonathan Silva deployed as center backs while Awaziem was on the bench for the entirety of the game at Estadio Municipal de Butarque (Leganés).
Gibson, who also represented Tottenham Hotspur, Coventry City and Wimbledon, believes that the Mexican football tactician was wrong to snub Awaziem as he gave a good account of himself in the previous match against
Real Valladolid.
Real Valladolid.
Speaking on La Liga TV post-match, Gibson stated : "I think alluding to team selection, it might be something as basic as that. I thought they were unlucky not to win that game against Real Valladolid.
"We saw Bustinza brought in for Roberto Rosales, Chidozie Awaziem was left out, he has been playing really well, I thought he played really well in that game (against Valladolid). He was on the bench tonight, Rodri Tarín came in."

Prior to yesterday's derby, Awaziem had gone the distance in five consecutive matches for CD Leganes in the league, helping the club record two wins and two draws.
