'We Get An Experienced Goalscorer' - Solskjaer Explains Why Manchester United Signed Ighalo
Published: February 01, 2020
Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained the reason behind the decision to sign Shanghai Greenland Shenhua striker Odion Ighalo on transfer deadline day.
Solskjaer revealed the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner would help lift the goalscoring burden off the shoulders of Anthony Martial and teenage striker Mason Greenwood following the injury suffered by Marcus Rashford.
Speaking to MUTV, Solskjaer said : "It was very important. I thought, with Marcus [Rashford] out for so long, the demands on Anthony [Martial] and Mason [Greenwood] would be high.
"We get an experienced goalscorer, top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations last season. He's a man with a big smile, a great personality and a big Manchester United fan."
"He's going to savour this, enjoy this and give absolutely everything for us."
