Lampard Fails To Unleash Precocious Teen Anjorin As Chelsea See Off Liverpool In FA Cup
Published: March 04, 2020
Precocious Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Faustino Anjorin has to wait to make his debut in the Emirates FA Cup, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 18-year-old made Chelsea's matchday 18 for an Emirates FA Cup fixture for the first time in his career as they defeated Liverpool 2-0 on Tuesday night to book a quarterfinal berth, but remained on the bench for the entirety of the game at Stamford Bridge.
If manager Frank Lampard had initial plans to introduce Anjorin off the bench as you would expect, that changed after Mateo Kovacic and Willian were forced to be substituted after suffering Achilles injuries.
The versatile Anjorin was called up for first team duties on the back of his brilliant performances for the youth teams of Chelsea.
An England U19 international, he is The Blues leading scorer in the Premier League 2 with five goals to his name and he's captain of the Chelsea U18s side who have reached the semifinal of the FA Youth Cup.
Chelsea progressed to the last eight of the FA Cup courtesy of goals from Willian and Liverpool-born Ross Barkley.
