'My Friend Victor Moses Was A Big Player For Wigan' - Balogun Opens Up On Deadline Day Move
Published: March 04, 2020
Leon Balogun completed a shock transfer to Wigan Athletic few hours before the close of the January transfer window, joining the Championship club on a loan deal until the end of the 2019-2020 season.
Balogun has been enjoying a new lease of life since his move to the DW Stadium, helping the Latics remain undefeated in their last five games in the English second-tier and they have kept three consecutive clean sheets with the Nigeria international at the heart of defence.
The German-born central defender has revealed that he first crossed paths with Wigan twelve years ago and recollected with pride that his former teammate in the Super Eagles setup, Victor Moses was a key player for the club before joining Chelsea.
"My first encounter with Wigan was actually during my first year as a professional in 2008," said Balogun to Brighton's official website.
"I was playing for Hanover in a friendly when they were still in the Premier League back then.
"Their FA Cup win over Manchester City stands out, and my friend Victor Moses from Nigeria was a big player for them.

"Then you have Dan Burn, who used to play here, and he told me a little bit about the group while Gaetan Bong began his career in England with the club."
Prior to his move to Wigan Athletic, Balogun found game time hard to come by at Brighton this season, making only two starts in all competitions.
