Manchester United's Ighalo Gets Recognition From UEFA After Stunning Goal Vs LASK
Published: March 13, 2020Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo was named in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Week on Friday, March 13, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Nigeria international was recognized for his performance against LASK in the Europa League round of 16, first leg tie at the Linzer Stadion (Linz), a game in which he scored and provided an assist to help the Red Devils secure a comfortable 5-0 victory.
The win against the Austrian side was the sixth by Ole Gunnar Solskjær's team since Ighalo made his debut against Chelsea on February 17.
Ighalo was one of six Manchester United players named to the Europa League Team of the Week, the others being Daniel James, Fred, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and Brandon William.
The Shanghai Shenhua loanee was the Skill of the Day winner for his outrageous effort in the 28th minute in which he controlled the ball three times, before firing home a spectacular effort in off the underside of the bar from just inside the area.
Ighalo has been nominated for the Europa League Player of the Week and faces competition from FC Basel's Samuele Campo, Bayer Leverkusen's Charles Aránguiz and Shakhtar Donetsk's Marcos Antônio to win the accolade.
