Super Eagles Star Awaziem Reveals Favourite Position; If Loan At Leganes Will Continue
Published: March 21, 2020
Super Eagles and Leganes defender Chidozie Awaziem has declared that the defence is not his preferred position despite being able to play at both central defensive position and right back.
The Porto-owned player bared his mind on Supersport's magazine programme Naija Made on Saturday.
"My favourite position is the defensive midfield position," Awaziem said to the amazement of presenter Chisom Mbonu Ezeoke and two analysts; Ralph Chidozie George and Ojekhere Aikhoje.
"I was a defensive midfielder in Porto but the coach decided to use me in central defence.
On the possibility of staying at his on loan Spanish side beyond this season, Awaziem disclosed that it could come to fruition.
"It all depends on how the season ends. If the club decides to extend my contract, we could do it. I feel comfortable here. It is one of the best leagues in the world and we will fight to escape relegation," the Nigerian who has played 18 league games in the current 2019/2020 season added.
Relegation threatened Leganes are 19th in the Spanish La Liga table with 23 points just three points above basement side Espanyol and two behind 18th placed Mallorca on 25 points.
Awaziem then spoke on the Coronavirus pandemic with a message to his Nigerian fans.
"The virus is dangerous and contagious. A policeman told me that the situation is bad. He told me about a 21-year-old boy that lost his life few days ago to the disease.
" If you don't have something serious to do outside, stay indoor except when you're going to the supermarkets for instance," Awaziem concluded.
