Published: March 23, 2020
Two Nigerian players in Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka and Partizan Belgrade's Umar Sadiq have been named to the Europa League Team of the Season so far by football statistics website Whoscored.
While Arsenal surprisingly failed to progress to the last sixteen of the competition after losing to Olympiakos via the way goals rule, the Serbian side, who were in the same group as Manchester United, did not advance past the group stage.
In a 4-4-2 formation, Saka was the starting left-back and Sadiq partnered Glasgow Rangers goal poacher Alfredo Morelos in attack.
The teenager was awarded a rating of 7.78 - the second best rated player in the Team of the Season - and the lanky forward got 7.58 out of ten marks.
Sadiq was involved in an impressive 6 goals (4 goals, 2 assists) in six group stage matches, and Saka also had an identical record, having scored 4 goals and provided two assists in six appearances.
Manchester United were the most represented team in the Team of the Season, with three of their players Harry Maguire, Fred and Bruno Fernandes listed.
A player must make a minimum of six appearances to be eligible to be included in the Europa League Team of the Season so far.
