Published: June 23, 2020
Sevilla have announced via their official website that Super Falcons striker Uchenna Kanu has been released.
The 23-year-old and seven other players namely Jeni Morilla, Aldana Cometti, Yanara Aedo , Sabrina Flores , Claire Falknor , Nadya Karpova and Olga Carmona have not been retained by Las Rojiblancas for the 2020-2021 season.
Kanu joined the Primera División (women) side in January 2020 and went on to make four appearances in the league, including two starts.
A member of the Nigeria squad to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, she has already agreed a deal with Swedish Damallsvenskan side Linkopings FC.
Before her move to Spain, she played in the United States of America, where she scored over 100 goals for Southeastern Fire.
Kanu was Nigeria's top scorer at the 2014 U17 Women's World Cup with three goals and was promoted to the U20 squad ahead of the World Cup in Canada that same year.
Former United States youth-teamer of Nigerian descent Toni Payne remains on the books of Sevilla for the time being.
