La Liga: Super Eagles Defender Suffers Injury In Leganes 3-0 Loss To Sevilla
Published: June 30, 2020Kenneth Omeruo faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury in the early stages of CD Leganes 3-0 loss to Sevilla at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Tuesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Nigeria international had to make way for compatriot Chidozie Awaziem just seven minutes into the game.
It is feared that Omeruo injured his hamstring which could see him miss Leganes' upcoming match against basement team Espanyol.
The timing of his injury is not ideal considering that he is the one of the first choice center backs and Los Pepineros are battling to stay afloat in the Spanish top-flight, with only five matches to the end of the 2019-2020 season.
This season, Omeruo has started 22 matches in the league while making one appearance as a substitute, and has found the net once, against Real Sociedad in February.
Sevilla established a two-goal lead, with Oliver Torres netting in the 23rd and 35th minute, before Munir El Haddadi wrapped up the scoring eight minutes from time.
With 25 points from 33 matches, Javier Aguirre's team are nine points from safety.
