Scottish Club Hamilton Academical Running The Rule Over 36-Goal Nigerian Striker
Published: July 12, 2020
Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical have handed a trial to prolific Nigerian striker Tunde Owolabi with a view to a transfer this summer, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Manager of the Accies, Brian Rice ran the rule over Owolabi in Friday's friendly against Rangers which ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts.
The 24-year-old was the top scorer in the Northern Premier League in the curtailed 2019-2020 season with 36 goals and is the leading marksman in the top seven divisions of English football.
Owolabi, who played for FC United of Manchester last season, was named Non League Paper Player of the Year for the 2019-2020 campaign after a banner season.
Prior to his move to FC United of Manchester, he represented another non-league club Radcliffe FC, for whom he scored 26 goals in 49 games during the 2018-19 season.
Tunde's father, Ganiyu Owolabi, was a professional footballer, turning out for Golden Babes, Okin Babes, Royal Antwerp, Viking FK, Al-Wasl among others before hanging up his boots.
Izzy Iriekpen and Richard Offiong, who are both of Nigerian descent, have played for Hamilton Academical in the past, while Marios Ogkmpoe is still at the club having extended his contract to the end of next season.
