Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was impressive as Wigan Athletic hammered Hull City 8-0 in an EFL Championship clash at the DW Stadium on Tuesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Making his ninth appearance in a Wigan shirt, the former Brighton & Hove player partnered Ivory Coast U23 international Cedric Kipre in central defence and put in a solid shift while helping goalkeeper David Marshall to post a shutout.
This is the first time in Wigan Athletic's history that they have scored eight goals in a single match, surpassing their achievement in the 2017-2018 season when they thrashed Oxford United 7-0 in the League One.
Kal Naismith's second minute goal set Wigan on their way, before strikes from Kieffer Moore, Kieran Dowell, Jamal Lowe put them 4-0 up after 36 minutes.
Moore and Dowell grabbed their braces in the 40th and 42nd minute respectively before Joseph Williams made it 7-0 on the stroke of half-time.
At minute 65, Dowell wrapped up the scoring, his third of the evening, with a volley into the top left corner.
With victory assured, Balogun made way for Alex Dobre in the 77th minute.
