Man City Record Intact : Wenger's Former Pupil Ikpeba Taunts Liverpool After Loss To Arsenal
Published: July 15, 2020
Manchester City's Premier League record of 100 points in a single season set in the 2017-2018 campaign is still intact following Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
With three games to the end of the season heading into today's tie in London, Jurgen Klopp's side had a chance to equal or surpass the record, provided they don't lose to the Gunners, but they were beaten despite dominating proceedings.
Anglo-Nigerian starlet Bukayo Saka was deployed at left wing-back and lasted 85 minutes on the pitch before making way for Bosnia international Sead Kolasinac.
Arsenal, who were guilty of individual errors at the weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, capitalised on two tonight, with Virgil van Dijk at fault for the first and goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the second.
Alexandre Lacazette took advantage on both occasions, scoring the equaliser in the 32nd minute after Sadio Mane had put the Reds in front, and the Frenchman set up Reiss Nelson for the game-winning goal a minute before half-time, which eventually saw Liverpool's pursuit of history come to an end.

Retired Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba, who played under former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger at Monaco, has taken to social media to taunt Liverpool after they were denied the chance to reach a century of points.
"It will take Liverpool another 30 years to break Manchester City record of 100 points in a single season," Ikpeba posted on Twitter.
A top six finish is still on the cards for Arsenal as they are three points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers with two games to go.
