Deputy Ambassador of Nigeria To Italy : President Buhari Is Happy With Osimhen's Transfer To Napoli
Published: July 25, 2020Franklin Ogunyemi, Deputy Ambassador of Nigeria to Italy has revealed that Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari and the entire diplomatic staff are delighted with Victor Osimhen's imminent move to Napoli.
Speaking to Naples based radio station, Radio Kiss Kiss, Ogunyemi highlighted the qualities of the Super Eagles striker and likened him to Ronaldo.
"The entire Nigerian diplomatic mission, headed by Ambassador Yusuf Jonga Hinna, is very happy with Victor Osimhen's transfer to Naples," said Ogunyemi.
"We know that the head of state of our country, Muhammadu Buhari, is also happy with this transfer. Osimhen is a young but already very strong footballer.
"He will perhaps be the highest paid African footballer, a sign that we are talking about a very talented boy.
"He is strong, fast, tactical. He has a characteristic of the Nigerian population: he never gives up. For these reasons, I compare him to Ronaldo."
Osimhen was linked with possible moves to Premier League and La Liga teams this summer, but Ogunyemi is of the opinion that Napoli is the best club for him to continue his development.
The Deputy Ambassador went on to reveal that many Nigerians based in Italy will start supporting Napoli once the transfer is completed.
"The Nigerian Football Federation is happy with it, thanks, because in turn it will find a player improved by the strength of an extraordinary championship like the Italian one.
"Napoli represents the right choice, the ideal place to grow and bring the club to even higher levels.
"Then,in Naples - as in the rest of Italy - there is a large representation of the Nigerian population who will certainly cheer for Osimhen and, consequently, for Napoli," he concluded.
Osimhen has reportedly agreed a five-year deal and chosen to wear the number 9 jersey in his debut season with Napoli.
