2004-Born Midfielder Ugochukwu Makes UYL Debut For Rennes In Loss To Inter Milan
Published: August 16, 2020
Nigerian central midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu has made his UEFA Youth League debut for French club Rennes, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 2004-born player was named in the starting lineup by manager Romain Ferrier as Rennes suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Inter Milan at the Colovray Sports Centre - Nyon on Sunday afternoon.
With the scoreline deadlocked at 0-0, Ugochukwu came close to opening the scoring in the 72nd minute but was denied by the woodwork, and the miss would prove costly as Casadei scored the game-winning goal for Inter Milan six minutes later when he rose high to head in Franco Vezzoni's cross from the left.
Seven minutes from time, Ugochukwu, who wore the number 8 jersey, made way for Diouf.
Rennes would have faced Real Madrid or Juventus in a last eight encounter if they had beaten Inter Milan.
Ugochukwu inked a three-year professional contract with Rennes in July 2020.
