Published: August 16, 2020
Celebrated Italian sports daily Tuttosport has updated the list of candidates for the prestigious Golden Boy, awarded to the best U21 player representing a European top-tier club.
In the list which is now reduced to 60 names, three players eligible to represent the Nigerian National Teams have made the cut, but Chelsea wonderkid Faustino Anjorin, who made the 100-man list in June has been omitted.
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Bayern Munich's Joshua Zirkzee and Red Bull Salzburg's Karim Adeyemi remain in the running for the award last won by Atlético Madrid's Joao Felix.
This is the first time in their careers that the three players have been nominated for the Golden Boy.
For the 2019 award, former Flying Eagles skipper Ikouwem Udo Utin , 20 , and Borussia Monchengladbach starlet Keanan Bennetts , 21 , were included on a list of 100 players.
In the recently concluded season, Saka played 38 matches for Arsenal's first team; Zirkzee has 12 games under his belt for Bayern and Adeyemi was involved in 12 matches for Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg.
The four aforementioned teenagers of Nigerian descent, including Anjorin, extended their contracts with their respective clubs in the 2019-2020 season.
