Ighalo Makes Cameo As Sevilla End Manchester United's Europa League Final Dreams
Published: August 16, 2020
Odion Ighalo featured from the bench for Manchester United as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Spanish opposition Sevilla in the semi-finals of the Europa League on Sunday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Super Eagles striker was handed a stoppage time run-out by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but he failed to add to his tally of two goals and an assist in five appearances in the competition.
The Red Devils opened the scoring in the game, courtesy of a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes after Marcus Rashford was fouled in the area.
Suso restored parity for Julen Lopetegui's side before the break, profiting from Sergio Reguilón's cross to score in the 26th minute.
Substitute striker Luuk De Jong came off the bench to net the winner 12 minutes from time when he prodded home a cross from Jesús Navas.
Thus, the winner between Victor Moses's Inter Milan who play Shakhtar Donetsk tomorrow in the other semifinal tie will contest in the competition's showpiece with Sevilla.
