'I'd Like To Become An international' - Dual-Eligible Striker Dessers Reveals His Ambition
Racing Genk striker Cyriel Dessers has revealed that one of his ambitions is to play international football.

Born to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother, Dessers is eligible wear the jerseys of the Red Devils and Super Eagles but remains uncapped at international level.

Five years ago, Dessers trained with Belgium U21 squad ahead of a European Championship qualifier but was an unused substitute against Moldova, before earning his first Nigeria call-up for two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone in March 2020.

He saw his dream to become cap-tied to the Super Eagles go up in smoke after the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers were postponed by the Confederation of African Football as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In the coming days, Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is expected to announce his roster for the UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Iceland in September, while the Super Eagles are inactive.

"I would like to become an international and play in a big Belgian club and fulfill a dream," Dessers told Eleven Belgium.

"I still hope to play in a great championship but that's for later."

Last season, Dessers was joint-top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with 15 goals and netted on his competitive debut for Genk.
