Bayern Munich Whizkid Targeted By Nigeria Named In Netherlands U21s Provisional Squad
Published: August 19, 2020
Bayern Munich striker Joshua Zirkzee has been named in Netherlands provisional squad list ahead of UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers against Belarus and Norway next month.
Zirkzee was first included in the Netherlands U21 squad last March but the matches could not hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 19-year-old is once again in contention to make his debut for Netherlands U21s, having been named to a 31-player pool by KNVB coach Erwin van de Looi.
Netherlands will tackle Belarus at the Stadyen Tarpeda (Zhodzina) on September 4, before hosting Norway at Yanmar Stadion in Almere four days later.
Born to a Nigerian mother and Dutch dad, Zirkzee also qualifies to play for the Super Eagles and he is one of the exciting dual-eligible youngsters on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The 19-year-old became provisionally cap-tied to Netherlands at U17 level and has also played for their U15, U16, U18 and U19 national teams.
