Arsenal-Owned Center Back Olowu Scores First Senior Goal For Cork City
Published: August 22, 2020Arsenal-owned central defender Joseph Olowu has netted his maiden senior goal and it came in the colours of Republic of Ireland top-flight club Cork City as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Derry City in a Premier Division match staged at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium on Friday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Ibadan-born starlet opened the scoring in the third minute when he fired the ball into the roof of the net after a loose ball dropped to him in the box.
Just before the half-hour mark, Olowu went down unchallenged, holding his hamstring and the physio attended to him but he couldn't continue the game and had to be replaced by Ronan Hurley in the 34th minute.
With the key defender not in action, Cork City crumbled in the second half, conceding three goals scored by O'Connor (OG), Hammill and James Akintunde.
Olowu's early opener was the first goal netted by Cork City in an away game in this season's Premier Division.
His loan deal with the Rebel Army was originally expected to keep him at the club until June but it has been extended until the end of the season.
