UCL Final: Kanu's Nigerian Record A Bridge Too Far To Be Broken By Ex-Chelsea Starlet Vs PSG
Published: August 23, 2020
Chelsea Academy product Jamal Musiala could enter the history books if he is given a run-out by manager Hans-Dieter Flick when Bayern Munich face off with PSG in the Champions League final on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Aged 17 years and 179 days, the attacking midfielder will become the youngest Nigeria-eligible player to figure in a Champions League/European Cup final should he step out onto the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica pitch in Lisbon.
Musiala featuring in the final cannot be entirely ruled out as he has been named to Bayern Munich's List A for the Champions League and is with the squad in Portugal.
But his chances are very slim considering the fact that he has yet to make his Champions League debut and was not included in the matchday 23 in the semifinals against Lyon.
Former Super Eagles striker Nwankwo Kanu is the youngest player of Nigerian descent to take part in a Champions League final, aged 18 years, 9 months and 23 days when he came off the bench for the last 37 minutes of Ajax Amsterdam's 1-0 win against AC Milan in May 1995.
Musiala is Bayern Munich's youngest ever Bundesliga debutant at 17 years and 115 days.
