Ex-Burnley Left-back Koiki Trialing With Charlton Athletic With A View To A Deal
Published: August 25, 2020
League One club Charlton Athletic have handed a trial to talented Nigerian fullback Ali Koiki with a view to joining the club on a permanent contract, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 21-year-old was among the players retained by Burnley for the 2020-2021 season, with the Premier League side offering him a new deal but it appears he sees his future away from the Clarets.
Koiki played the last thirty minutes as Charlton Athletic were beaten 3-2 by Southend United in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Sparrows Lane on Tuesday afternoon.
The left-back has Football League experience under his belt, making 15 appearances in total during a loan spell with Swindon Town in the second half of the 2018-2019 season.
Despite impressing for Burnley's development squad, he has yet to make his first team debut but has featured on the bench three times for Premier League matches -
against Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea - and was a non-playing substitute
vs Peterborough United in the third round of the FA Cup this year.
Koiki played for the youth team of Crystal Palace before joining Burnley in 2016.
