Republic Of Ireland Beat Nigeria To Idah As Norwich Teen Sensation Plays Cap-tying Game
Published: September 04, 2020
Football Association of Ireland have beaten the Nigeria Football Federation to the services of Norwich City teenage sensation Adam Idah, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Ignoring the proposed new FIFA rule that could allow a player who has already played competitively for another country change nationality under some conditions, Idah is no longer eligible to represent the Nigeria National Teams after he played a cap-tying game for Republic of Ireland on Thursday night.
The 2001-born center forward was named in the starting lineup as Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria played out a goalless draw in a UEFA Nations League match staged at the Stadion Vasil Levski in Sofia.
The Cork native was on the pitch for 77 minutes before making way for Southampton striker Shane Long.
Idah is the second player of Nigerian descent to play a cap-tying game for Republic of Ireland in recent years after Southampton's Michael Obafemi.
Prior to his senior competitive debut, Idah scored an impressive 34 goals in 61 appearances for Ireland's U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 national teams.
