Southampton Were Interested In Signing Ex-Ajax Winger Ideho Before Move To Arsenal
Published: October 07, 2020
Arsenal confirmed the capture of Nigeria-eligible winger Joel Ideho from Ajax Amsterdam on Tuesday, signing him on a professional contract subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
It has come to light that at least one English Premier League made a move for the Netherlands U18 invitee prior to the promising winger agreeing terms with the Gunners.
According to Voetbal Primeur, Southampton and Hertha Berlin were interested in signing Ideho in the summer.
The 17-year-old put himself in the shop window last season while wearing the colours of Willem II, scoring twelve goals and assisting nine others.
Shortly after his move to Ajax Amsterdam, he introduced himself to de Godenzonen fans in a big way when he scored a world class goal against FC Midtjylland in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Youth League.
Although Arsenal have not disclosed the length of contract signed by Ideho, a FIFA rule states that players under the age of 18 may not sign a
professional contract for a term longer than three years and any clause
referring to a longer period shall not be recognised.
