'I Can't Wait To Be On The Pitch' - Genk Striker Dessers Eager To Make Nigeria Debut
Published: October 07, 2020
Racing Genk striker Cyriel Dessers is eager to make his first outing in a Super Eagles shirt ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia.
Top scorer in the Eredivisie for the 2019-2020 season, Dessers was first invited to the Super Eagles for their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone but the two games couldn't hold as scheduled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Despite his patchy form since his transfer to Racing Genk, manager Gernot Rohr named Dessers in his first squad list of 2020-21, a very unpopular decision as he initially omitted Paul Onuachu, Nigeria's top scorer in Europe in the new season.
"I'm really happy to be here, my first call-up for the Super Eagles, it's a dream that comes true.
"I can't wait to be on the pitch, play the games, to meet you the fans, and I hope to see you soon".
Dessers has no international caps at youth level for his country of birth, Belgium but trained with their U21 squad in March 2015 before a European Championship qualifier vs Moldova.
