Aubameyang Reveals Two Nigerian Youngsters Who Can Make The Grade At Arsenal
Published: December 13, 2020
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has tipped two Nigeria-eligible teenagers in Miguel Azeez and Folarin Balogun to make their mark on the first team following their professional debuts.
While Balogun has scored two goals and has an assist to his name in four appearances in the Europa League, Azeez capped a meteoric rise through the youth ranks with his first game for the north London club in Thursday night's 4-2 win at Dundalk, playing the last seven minutes after coming off the bench.
The two technically gifted Anglo-Nigerians trained with Arsenal first team stars ahead of today's clash with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking to Arsenal's matchday programme ahead of the visit of the Clarets, Aubameyang said : "Thursday night was a special occasion for two players in particular, midfielders Ben Cottrell and Miguel Azeez.
"We have all been in that position, coming on for our debut, and we never forget that special moment - it was great to see them look so good, so quickly.
"We train with these young players all the time and have no doubts they can play at that level.
"When you think Eddie, Flo and Joe scored three of our four goals, it was an amazing night for our academy - it is one of the very best.
"Things certainly couldn't be going much better for Flo, he comes on, he scores - it's a good habit!"
