'He'll be one of the best' - Serena predicts bright future for Atalanta's 17yo defender Ahanor
Published: November 09, 2025
Retired Italy international Aldo Serena has praised Atalanta's 17-year-old defender Honest Ahanor, highlighting his potential and promising rise in Italian football.
Serena, a former forward for Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus and now a Sky Sport commentator, recently spoke about the young defender's abilities and future prospects.
Serena focused on Ahanor's potential in his role, stating, as quoted by Tribuna, "He will be one of the best in the world in his position".
The former Italian star emphasized the versatility and talent of the young left-back, signaling high expectations for his future career in top-level football.
Ahanor, born in Aversa, Campania, is eligible to represent both Nigeria, through his parents, and Italy, where he was born.
After his time at Genoa, he joined Atalanta on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window for around €17 million.
Since joining Atalanta, Ahanor has shown strong performances and quickly integrated into the first team.
Although the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is monitoring his progress, he has yet to be invited to Italy’s youth national teams as he does not hold an Italian passport.
