'We'll Assess Mikel Today' - Stoke City Coach On The Availability Of Ex-Chelsea Star
Published: December 14, 2020
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has an outside chance of returning to the matchday squad when Stoke City face Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on Tuesday.
Mikel has not been involved in the last four games played by the Potters - against Wycombe Wanderers, Middlesbrough, Cardiff City and Derby County - because of injury.
Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill revealed that his marquee summer signing will undergo a late fitness test ahead of trip to the English capital.
The Bet365 Stadium outfit have managed to keep three clean sheets from four games without their influential holding midfielder in the squad.
Speaking to reporters at Monday's press conference, O'Neill said : "We’ll assess John Obi (Mikel) today. He trained for part of the session yesterday, but the important thing is not bringing players back too early and risking re-injury.
"I suppose the big positive for is that no one added to our injury list from the game on Saturday".
