Teenage Nigerian Midfielder Makes Premier League Debut For Wolves In Win Vs Chelsea
Published: December 15, 2020
American-born Nigerian midfielder Owen Otasowie has finally made his English Premier League debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Against Chelsea at the Molineux Stadium on Tuesday evening, manager Nuno Espírito Santo made one change at the break for Wolves as Leander Dendoncker was replaced by Otasowie.
The 2001-born Otasowie was a non-playing substitute on eight occasions, including five in the 2020-2021 campaign, prior to his first appearance in the top-flight.
It was an evening to remember for the 19-year-old, who impressed and helped Wolves register a 2-1 win against the visitors from London, and television images showed a delighted Nuno Espírito Santo embracing the Nigerian after the final whistle.
Frenchman Olivier Giroud fired home at the near post to give Chelsea the lead four minutes after the restart and a great finish from Daniel Podence restored parity at minute 67.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Pedro Neto netted the game-winning goal as he fired a powerful effort into the bottom corner following a swift counter-attack.
Otasowie's other first team appearance for Wolves was around a year ago when he played for seventeen minutes in a Europa League fixture vs Besiktas.
