The Lowdown On Nigerian Midfielder At Ajax Amsterdam No One Is Talking About
Published: December 20, 2020
Gibson Yah is one of the rising stars of Nigerian descent playing in the Netherlands and could spark an international tug of war between Nigeria and Netherlands for his services in future.
Born September 27, 2003, Yah is a central midfielder on the books of one of the best clubs known for giving playing time to talented youngsters, Ajax Amsterdam.
Despite being a defensive-minded player, he is considered to be tactically disciplined with no yellow card received in 22 appearances across all competitions for Ajax Amsterdam's youth teams.
Allnigeriasoccer.com contacted Ajax Amsterdam youth team expert, Ajax YA to provide a lowdown on the Dutch-Nigerian youngster.
"Yah is at the club since 2014 already. And was always one of the better midfielders of the team. Last seasons were more difficult for him, due to injuries. But he is developing well.
"He is fast and good with the ball, but sometimes a little bit sloppy in possession. I think his focus can be better during matches and also his goal/assist contribution.
"We have a lot of great midfielders coming through. The next seasons (U18 now and later U23) will be very interesting to see how he will develop.
"He is a ‘rough diamond’ I think, but it is difficult to say something about him now because we haven't seen any talent play since September/October due to Covid-19".
Yah honed his footballing skills at DVC Buiksloot before transferring to Ajax Amsterdam at the age of ten.
He was teammates with former Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei and Manchester United's Dillon Hoogewerf in the Netherlands U15 national team back in 2018.
